The way to the shore
The weary shall lead
With a gentle breeze from the sea
And a whisper from the hills
As the sky draws near
The burdened onward to beckon
And the moon its gentle countenance
Does in encouragement incline
As the stars above for the spirit to brighten do twinkle
And overhead a fly past of dunlins
A welcome in the mighty firmament describes
And as the heavy of heart
Now with a spirit renewed and uplifted
Onward to the shore do press
The tranquillity of the ocean
The gentleness of the sea breeze
And the vastness of the sky
The comfort of the moon and the stars
And the glee upon the sighting of a shooting star
Much to relish
For the heartened spirit of the pilgrim
Evermore to gladden til journey’s end be nigh

  2. I love that you’ve written it’s the weary who will lead–there’s something very redeeming (and restoring) in the condition we usually view negatively. Great writing!!

    I was reminded of ‘The Alchemist’ for some reason.

  9. Yes, what you wrote is full of Truth and encouragement. That “the weary will lead” made me think of all the Old Testament passages which describe the group usually assigned at the head, in front of the soldiers–they were the musicians, singing praises to God. Now, you just know that sometimes they were a weary lot! But they knew they’d been placed in a position of great honor. So I suspect this weary one may be with you in the group that “leads”–that excites me!!

  12. Yes indeed. I think when we are steeped in the bible these notions become part of who were are how we think and express ourselves. A verse will linger for days until it appears in a poem.
