“Later that day” #poem #poetry #verse

Later that day
Following in the wake
Of the ravages of a merciless storm
The face of the eventide sky
Red from weeping
Upon a sheet of lilac reclining
That bore the angry welts of purple hue
Of the stricken kingdom celestial
Verily for succour did appeal
To the glowing sunset
Who upon the afflicted did bestow
Myriad blandishments honeyed
With a soothing balm of pure gold a’blended
Upon the wounded defeated
Before the great daystar
Abed tenderly die lie
Beside the injured
Perchance for all to slumber awhile
Until morning and healing anew were nigh
