“Long stemmed flowers” #poem #poetry #verse #writing

Long stemmed flowers of a late summertide
sway at the behest of a stiff breeze
Precursor of autumn gales imminent

They contrive to lean and to fold
this way and that
As their glorious heads they do bow
for to sweep the ground beneath their stems
And touch the very soil
from whence they did emanate
To which they shall return anon

At the command of the remorseless winds
that abound beneath an indifferent sky

Silent and resolute
They labour and toil much
through their apportioned travail
a’struggle in the brute gusts autumnal
That know neither mercy nor relent
